For 18 years, my mind was forged in high-consequence, data-dense environments. Operating as a crew supervisor and air attack officer trainee fighting wildland fires, success meant making critical decisions under massive time constraints. I had to process a relentless stream of moving parts—balancing resource allocation, latency, and operational cost—while maintaining a hyper-focused eye on the big picture.
When I transitioned away from wildfire management, I channeled that same intensity into programming, and I found my exact cognitive match. What started as building a wildfire simulator (IGNIS) bloomed into a consuming passion for systems-level architecture. Trying to calculate radiant heat propagation across grid cells at 60 FPS brought me face-to-face with the physical limits of hardware. Discovering Data-Oriented Design and the Odin programming language was a revelation: optimizing for CPU caches, memory latency, and Structure of Arrays (SoA) just made sense. My mind settled into cooperating with the literal physics of the machine.
Today, my drive is focused on mastering the deepest intricacies of software architecture. This isn't just a career pivot; it is the natural evolution of how I solve complex problems. Whether I am writing a game engine or a full-stack web application, I approach code with the same discipline I brought to the fire line.
As everything in life requires balance, I find mine entirely off-screen. I am an avid fitness enthusiast, an outdoor adventurer, and above all, a proud husband and father.
